Privacy Statement
Within the framework of the uCARe program funded by the European Commission, the Laboratory of Applied Thermodynamics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (LAT) is a member of a European consortium whose goal is to complete the research project entitled “you Can Always R>educe emissions because you care” (acronym: uCARe). Detailed information is available on the program website https://www.project-ucare.eu.
The aim of uCARe is to collect information and data via a data recorder installed in the vehicle, connected to the vehicle on-board diagnostic system (OBD). The device is provided in the form of a loan. Therefore, you must protect it from damage or theft and must return it after use at the reception point.
The data collected by the device relate exclusively to the operation of the engine and the position of the vehicle. From the collection and processing of these data, various conclusions will be produced which will be made public. The final target of the exercise is to attempt to reduce emissions of pollutants and fuel consumption of vehicles.
This document describes how your personal data is handled within the uCARe consortium.
Which personal data do we process?
The apparatus consists of an OBD data logger. It is a device that records the signals transmitted by the OBD system of the vehicle. The device is described as a "commonly available diagnostic tool" and does not interfere with the operation of the vehicle, nor can it affect it in any way. The operation of the device is that it receives information from the OBD port of the vehicle, as provided by the legislation Regulation (EC) No 715/2007, COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) No 136/2014, COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2017/1151.
To participate in the pilot project and to be able to use the uCARe webtool (available via the website https://ucaretool.eu/), uCARe processes the following data:
- For the user: first name, last name, country, e-mail address, phone, gender, personal password.
- For the characteristics of the vehicle: country, license plate number, vehicle identification number, make, model, type, year of manufacture, fuel tank capacity, odometer indication, odometer indication recording date, OBD device IMEI.
- For vehicle operating parameters: trip start and stop time, trip duration, vehicle speed, engine speed, intake air temperature and other more specialized technical parameters provided via the OBD interface.
- For the location of the vehicle: latitude, longitude, altitude.
- Data from processing: correction of exact position of the vehicle and altitude via interpolation with map data, fuel consumption of the vehicle, pollutant emissions of the vehicle, eco driving score.
Why do we process your personal data?
The purpose of the collection and processing of your personal data is to complete the measurements with the recording system as described above and their statistical use to draw conclusions. The personal details of each driver or owner as well as the vehicle will not be disclosed in any form, unless the driver or owner allows such disclosure with explicit consent.
How do we process your personal data?
The data collection will take place on the web servers and by the software from Crossyn Automotive B.V., located at Fraterstraat 22, 5041 DL Tilburg, The Netherlands. Crossyn is a member of the uCARe consortium and will mainly collect personal data of the driver or owner of each vehicle chosen during the creation of an account on the server and the data recorded from the device installed in the vehicle.
In order to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), appropriate technical and organisational security measures have been taken to protect your personal data from, for example, accidental loss or malicious actions. The information security management system of Crossyn is ISO 27001 certified. Your data will be linked to a pseudo-id and encrypted with high-end encryption software. Furthermore, the data originating from the device in your vehicle will not be transmitted through the internet, but only through a secured private network. Access to your personal data is restricted to the specific persons responsible for it.
Crossyn can be contacted via privacy@crossyn.com or +31850150041.
